Alta Vernice Johnson, 95, of Delaplaine, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro.  She was born on January 31, 1930, in Burdette to the late Ernest B. and Ella Faye (Martin) Ashabranner. She was united in marriage to Ivan "Leo" Johnson on October 25, 1948, in Rector. She was a homemaker and a member of the Delaplaine Church of Christ. Alta enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden, and was a dedicated mother and grandmother who adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Johnson; her daughter, Sherry Rebenneck; her brothers, Norman Ashabranner, E.B. Ashabranner, Elliot (Bobbie) Ashabranner, and Charles Ashabranner; her sisters, Ola B. Nobles and Opal Ashabranner; her granddaughter, Stephanie Witworth; and her son-in-law, Robert J. Black.

She is survived by her children, Dian (Charles B., Jr.). Johnson of Peach Orchard and Teresa Black of Jonesboro; sister, Patsy (Avery) Davis of Bloomfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Megan Johnson (Geoffory Eubanks), Steve Johnson (Kelly), Ivy Johnson, Courtney (Brandon) Horton, Melanie (Jason) Hinchey, Alexandra Broitman, Malcom John (Max) Rebennack; great-grandchildren, Whitney Ragsdell (Nick), Jillian Johnson, Stormy Hufstedler, River Hufstedler, and Jaci Hufstedler, Leo Mack Eubanks, Ella Hinchey, Kyler Dulaney, Dylan (Belina) Dulaney, Ava Horton, Raylan Horton, and Juliana (Blake) Bennett; great-great grandchildren, Charlee Walton, Wesley Crouch, Henry Ragsdell, Lucy Ragsdell, Jace Dulaney, Rhys Dulaney, Hazel Bennett, and Wells Bennett; and a host of other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 12 p.m. in the Kennett Memorial Gardens in Kennett, Missouri, with Blake Bennett officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.
