On Saturday, September 4 ^th , 2021, after several months of declining health, Charley Whitmire, 88, loving husband, father, and grandfather left this earthly life for his heavenly home surrounded by his family. Charley was born on December 4 ^th , 1932 to Jasper and Lunia (Mosier) Whitmire in Strawberry, Arkansas. He moved to Rockford in 1949. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Rockford. He retired from National Lock in 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. He loved to take long walks around Ingersoll Golf Course, play pool, and Rummikub. Over the years, he has established an extensive collection of golf balls which he proudly displayed throughout the house. Though he loved his children, spending time with his grandchildren was the highlight of his days. Survivors include his children, Charley (Nancy) Whitmire, Jr., Deb Swinney, Sue Frint, Joyce (Jason) Lewis, Betty Henson, Bill Henson, Mary Henson, Kenny Henson, and Sue Henson; brother, Gerald (Barbara) Whitmire; 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives.  Predeceased by his wife, Ruby; his parents; daughter, Kaye DeCampa; sisters, Mildred Dawson, Marie Ervin; Kathy Land; and Anna Dobbs; brothers, Buddy Whitmire and Jasper Whitmire, Jr. A special thank you to the SwedishAmerican CCU – Pod D nursing staff for their loving care and support during his final days. Service at 2 p.m. in North Park Church of Christ, 7620 Elm Ave., Machesney Park 61115.  Visitation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday September 9 ^th , 2021, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Ln., Loves Park.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

A visitation will be held on September 16, 2021 at Cox Funeral Home, 3280 Hwy.67B North, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas from 11a.m. until 12 p.m. with funeral following at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
