Dorthy Louella Murphy Garvin left this walk of life and entered her eternal home on Friday, December 20, 2024. She was surrounded by family at her home in Warm Springs, Arkansas as she peacefully drew her last breath. Dorthy was better known as Dot, granny Dot, granny, sills, or the great white hunter. Her greatest enjoyment was when she was in the woods watching for a deer to get close enough that she could stick it with an arrow or plug it with a bullet. She was proud of the display of deer horns in her den and she was quick to inform newcomers that the majority of those horns were harvested by her. She gave Virgil a little credit. She spent many hours processing deer meat for herself and her family. She worked at Brown Shoe until they closed. She would tell people that she then became a pilot. Real impressionable, right? Well, wrong kind of pilot. Her pilot job led her to many of hours of hard work. Virgil would cut the brush and or trees and she would pile it to be burned. She also loved to pick up rocks and burn stumps. She was determined that rocks in the garden reproduced. Gardening and freezing or canning was another favorite pastime of hers. She was a great cook but one of the family favorites was chocolate gravy and homemade biscuits. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her family enjoyed eating her cooking.

Dot had several visitors the weekend before she passed away and it was said by more than one that she told stories that had never been heard by the visitors. She was very tired by the end of the weekend, but she had a very enjoyable time visiting with family and friends.
Dot was born on December 7, 1939 to Verlon and Muriel (Burns) Murphy. Dot and Virgil were united in marriage on August 9, 1957. They lived in Sedgwick, but later moved to Warm Springs.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Darrell Murphy; her sister, Shirley Peoples; her brother Boyd Murphy; her husband, Virgil Garvin; her second husband, Sam Garvin; her granddaughter Amanda Cummings; her granddaughter, Melissa Wilson; and her grandson, Shane Koster.

Dot leaves behind her baby brother, Connie (Helen) Murphy; her four children, Marty (Tammy) Martin; Wendell (Debby) Garvin; Wesley (Carla) Garvin; and Kim (Charles) Koster as well as her grandchildren, Brittany (Bryan) Byrd; Brent Martin; Ben (Kimbra) Samons; Amanda (Donnie) Cox; Heather (Jarred) Ussery; Alex Garvin; Kelly (Curtis) Brown; Austin (Jessa) Garvin; Brandon Garvin; Vonda Pierce; Magan (Phillip) Secor; Garrett (Corra) Garvin; Samantha (Richie) Green; and Seth (Melissa) Koster; several great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sisters in law, Helen Swindle and Ruth Stormes; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Jeanette Palmer; as well as other family and friends.

There will be a visitation at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Cremation will take place following the visitation.
