Powhatan – Hershel Cope, Jr., 71 passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on December 29, 1943 in West Plains, Missouri to Hershel Sr. and Georgia Bernice Bell Cope. He married Freda Chadwick on November 21, 1990, and worked as a coordinator at Caterpillar Company for over thirty years. He was a member of Living Word Church in Jonesboro, serving as usher, greeter, and deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include: his wife, Freda of the home; daughter, Angie (Greg) Heinzmann of Washington, Illinois; step-daughter, Rhonda (Alvin) Mason of Batesville; brothers, John Cope of Springfield, Missouri, Jimmy Cope of Pekin, Illinois, Gary Dean Cope, Sr. of West Plains, Missouri; sister, Doris Shannon of East Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren, Keirston Heinzmann, Jarrad, Justan, and Jessan Taylor, Steven Shrum; great grandchildren, Lilly and Hayden Brown, Brennan Lane Taylor, and Layson Shrum, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2015 from 1-2 pm at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Walnut Ridge, and funeral service to follow at 2 pm with Denny Beavers officiating. Graveside service will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11 am at Oaklawn Cemetery in West Plains, Missouri under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gary Dean Cope, Jr., Mike Cope, Shawn Cope, Steve Shannon, Jarrad Taylor, and Greg Heinzmann.
