Opal Jewell Wasson, 103, a most recent resident of Walnut Ridge and Fort Smith, and former long-time resident of Harrison, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in Walnut Ridge.  She was born December 15, 1917, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to the late William and Mae Henderson Henson.  Opal was a seamstress and bookkeeper during her life.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended First United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge and Fort Smith.  Family relationships were the most important part of Opal's life.  After she retired, she shared her love for travel with her family and took every grandchild on a vacation to the destination of their choice.

In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Arlus A. Wasson; daughter, Cheryl Wasson; and five siblings.

She is survived by her children, Ken Wasson (Shelley) of Barling, Dick Wasson (Linda) of Little Rock, and Linda Teel (Tony) of Walnut Ridge; eight grandchildren, Mechelle Teel, Natalie Teel, Heath Teel, John Wasson, Kimberly Hoelzeman, Faith Beeman, Joy Wasson, and Cyle Harris; 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life in honor of Opal will be Friday, June 11, 2021, at 1 P.M. in Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison.  Jimmy Dunlap will officiate.  There will be an opportunity for family members and friends to share any special memories of Opal at the graveside.   All arrangements are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeremy Howard, Cody Howard, Jordan Howard, Trevor Teel, Josiah Wasson, and John Wasson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Hoelzeman and Heath Teel.
